Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life
…but what does that mean…?
I have read it so many times in
John 14:6
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
…But the other day, I created a little “Danish design” as a wall sticker for the wall in our living room – and then, suddenly, the actual meaning of it struck me in a big way.
If you examine “The Way, the Truth, the Life” separately, it is crazy how much it says about who Jesus is.

Wikipedia (Denmark) says: A way or road describes a traffic lane (a constructed stretch intended for non-rail traffic to pass).” That’s so incredible… first of all, we are not rail traffic – meaning not puppets or controlled by God, but rather we have our own free will to choose which way to go.
A roadway always leads somewhere. It might be a cul-de-sac, it may end at your destination, or it may merge with other roads – and it may be constructed from anything from sand to asphalt, etc., but try to imagine a system of roads… a complete chaos of roads in every direction, and out of all those roads, only one straight and narrow road leads to Paradise… Namely Jesus. All the other roadways may be the roadways of “There is no God”, ”God is in everything”, “Humanism”, “There is no God, but everything is divine”, “My god is a guru”, “Money”, “Family”, “Power and status”, “Me, myself, and I”, “Satan”, “Odin and Thor”, etc., etc. – and in the middle of the jungle of huge, wide roads with awesome new asphalt, there is the little dirt road way, which is definitely not without potholes, and which is hard to spot, even when it’s right in front of you. That one way leads to Jesus. Listen to Him and choose also ”righteousness” (Ephesians 6:14) for the road you’ll travel.
Matthew 7:13-14
Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.
And the most amazing thing is that if we choose the way known as “Jesus”, He will be right there with us to lead and guide us… So we are never alone when choosing that way.
Psalms 119:105
Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.

Jesus saying that He is the truth means both that His words are truth… but choosing Jesus also means choosing truth to rule in your life. Gone is the life based on lies, a life with small white lies, or all dishonesty in general. Living a life of lies can eat you up on the inside… and once you choose truth and allow it to rule, is when you truly choose Jesus! At the same time, truth is part of the armor we need to put on to protect ourselves against the ”wiles of the Devil”. (Eph. 6:14: Gird your waist with truth.) If we remove the belt of truth, we remove ourselves from Jesus, thus opening a gateway for the devil to gain a foothold in our lives.
John 8:31b-32
»If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.«

Life means both that through Jesus we must choose life here on earth, and at the same time that we must choose eternal life in Paradise. If you are constantly going around saying ”I am so tired of this life”, “It would be so much easier if I wasn’t here,” etc., you make room for death instead of making room for Jesus. Wanting death while loving Jesus makes no sense. Jesus actually conquered death!!!
John 5:24
Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.
John 11,25-26a
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die.
So remember… Choose the right way, speak only the truth, and choose life over death!
